Bidart & its surroundings
Bidart: perched high in the cliffs, soak up the sweeping views of the ocean, the Jaizquibel, the ‘Trois Couronnes’ peaks and the Rhune. The town square is utterly charming and features the classic Basque trio of 16th-century church, town hall, and fronton court. The resort boasts incredible fine sandy beaches: llbarritz, the Pavillon Royal, Erretegia and Parlementia.
There are five must-see sites to explore while you’re here: the Château Abbadia in Hendaye, the Cité de L’Océan and the Aquarium in Biarritz, the Villa Arnaga in Cambo-les-Bains, and the Isturitz and Oxocelhaya caves in Saint-Martin-d’Arberoue.
Bayonne: its Vauban-era fortifications, its Gothic cathedral, and the Musée Bonnat and Musée Basque museums.
From the Rhune to the Col de Saint Ignace: hop aboard the sight-seeing train, taking in spell-binding views from the top of the Pyrenees’ very first mountain, and get to know Basque Country’s unique wildlife.
In the Vallée de la Nive valley: Cambo les Bains (Musée Edmond Rostand museum), Bidarray (Pottok horse nature reserve), Louhossoa (weaving workshops), Larressore (Makila manufacturing), Arcangues (the singer Luis Mariano’s house)
